After years of discouragement at art college, when tutors tried to dissuade me from attempting to paint figures, I quietly rebelled against them by hiding limitless faces into my paintings. Painted subtley, and imitating natural paint splashes, they could almost go unnoticed. I am now finally growing in confidence and tackling the challenging and wonderful figure with increasing boldness.
Recently I have focused on self portraits. By concentrating on my own image – and most often my naked form – I hope to explore my internal fight between hesitant vulnerability and fierce developing confidence
I have begun to approach portraits of my friends and loved ones. I hope to convey something of their souls, and their importance to me. Images of these works will be added as soon as the paint dries!
